About Me:
After several long years of getting polite rejection letters from magazine editors, Lissa decided that the only way to be taken seriously was to get her journalism degree. Lissa realized that she had potential when she won a writing contest in the fourth grade that resulted in a free pass to Kings Island for her and her family. After several long years of getting polite rejection letters from magazine editors, Lissa decided that the only way to be taken seriously was to get her Journalism degree.
Projects I'm Working On:
- Elissa got me a fantastic internship at the Archives and Rare Books Library, where I am working on an online exhibit of the archival issues of Clifton Magazine, the award-winning UC student magazine that ran from 1972 to 1995.
- I am crusading for a resurrection of Clifton Magazine as a venue for students in the UC Journalism program
- I am working on a photographic history of the inclines of Cincinnati.
- Making room in my schedule to get involved with SPJ.
- Classes, a retail job, a husband and a teenage son compete for my time and attention
Where I Get Inspiration:
- Features on NPR such as "Fresh Air", "All Things Considered", and "Talk of the Nation"
- Historic books at the Archives and Rare Books Library
- New York Times
- Town and Country Magazine
- American Heritage Magazine
- Conde Nast Traveler Magazine
My Dream Job Is:
I'd like to work in New York as an editor at a publishing house, and eventually write books (narrative nonfiction or fiction).
How I Plan To Get There:
I'd like to get my Masters in Publishing (preferably at NYU) and am looking into internships in New York.
